Vladimir Mouraviev, M.D., Ph.D., is a fellowship trained urological surgeon. He received his medical school training and surgical internship at State Military Medical Academy named after S.M. Kirov in Saint Petersburg, Russia, and went on military service as a surgeon. Then, he completed his surgical and urological residency at the Department of Surgery of the same Academy specializing in urogenital injuries, reconstructive and general urology, and rose there from the ranks of Instructor to Assistant Professor in Surgery and Urology. He also defended a PhD thesis in uropathological features of urethral disruption after crushed injury to the pelvis. Dr. Mouraviev received training in oncological urology and endourology in clinic based in Germany, Sweden and Poland. In North America, he completed three clinical and two research fellowships in urological oncology, endourology, neurourology/urodynamics sequentially at Baylor College of Medicine, Vancouver Prostate Center, Duke University Medical Center, University of Cincinnati, Bladder Health and Reconstructive Urology in Miramar, Florida. At Duke, he was also Director of the Prostate Cancer Center Outcome Database and pioneered and developed a concept of focal therapy for prostate and kidney cancer, founding and organizing an annual International Duke-Amsterdam symposium on this topic from 2008 to present. From 2012 to 2015, he was working as a Director of Clinical Research Department of a large urology group, Associated Medical Professionals in Syracuse, New York, conducting 35 clinical research trials when the group championed 5 into nationwide testing novel surgical modalities and medications in different areas of urology. Dr. Mouraviev is experienced in all facets of urology including general and endourology (stones of different locations), urologic oncology (kidney, bladder and prostate, testicular and penile cancer), voiding disorders (urgency, incontinence, nocturia, etc.), erectile dysfunction, hypogonadism (testosterone deficiency), Benign Prostate Hyperplasia, etc. He has a particular, professional interest in focal therapy of prostate cancer with implementation of different novel ablative techniques to focally ablate a local cancer lesion inside of prostatic gland instead of a whole gland radiation therapy or surgical removal. This approach is gaining more attraction and popularity all over the world from patient and urologist side regarding better preservation of sexual function, continence and other quality of life issues.
