He graduated with highest distinction from The University of Kansas and graduated at the top of his class from the University of Kansas School of Medicine, where he was the recipient of many awards and an NIH-funded scholarship at the KU Cancer Center to conduct a study in cancer metastasis. He was inducted into the prestigious alpha omega honor society.
