About Shawn Cole, MD
Dr. Cole is board-certified in internal medicine and has a strong academic primary care and urgent care background. Following completion of his internal medicine-primary care residency training at Yale-New Haven Hospital, he enjoyed six years at the Veterans Affairs Connecticut Health System where he assumed an academic primary care role and helped lead the first nurse-practitioner fellowship in interprofessional primary care which is now serving as a model for Veterans Affairs interprofessional healthcare delivery across the country. Subsequently, he became Medical Director for Urgent Care and Patient-Centered Medical Home at Northeast Medical Group (Yale-New Haven Health). His leadership and passion for innovative healthcare solutions led to Dr. Cole being selected as the physician champion for the health system’s telemedicine initiative which led to a career-defining, instant appreciation for a healthcare delivery modality that offers convenient patient access solutions and boosts physician satisfaction. He has since become a national leader in telemedicine with expertise in clinical quality, patient safety, and credentialing.

Dr. Cole has won numerous teaching awards as a result of his enthusiasm for leadership and education. Clinically, Dr. Cole employs an evidence-based, individualized approach with disease prevention in mind. He holds a medical degree from University of Illinois College of Medicine and a Master of Health Administration from Ohio University. Outside of healthcare, he is an avid ice hockey player and coach, a lifelong martial artist, and a fitness and sports nutrition enthusiast. Most of all he enjoys traveling and spending time with his family.
