Dr. Richard Leon Bridgewater is a Board Certified Obstetrics and Gynecology Of Bahamian American descent and locally raised in Miami, Florida. Dr. Bridgewater received a Congressional nomination and attended West Point, The United States Military Academy. However, with the dream to be a Cardiothoracic Surgeon, he went on to study medicine and received a Bachelors of Arts in Chemistry from Cornell University and a Medical Degree from Yale University School of Medicine. He began his General Surgery internship and residency at the University of Miami-Jackson Memorial Hospital before returning to Yale to find his true gift, Obstetrics and Gynecology. He completed his residency at Albany Medical Center in 1992 and he has been Board Certified since 1994. Extreme hard work, commitment to knowledge, honesty and humility has been his pursuit for 22 years.
His unique training allows him to provide complete OB/GYN care, stress urinary incontinence management, and Minimally Invasive Surgeries including laparoscopic hysterectomy. Two years of General Surgery prior to OB/GYN allowed early training and skills to manage difficult and unique gynecologic surgeries including pelvic reconstructive and cosmetic surgery. These procedure includes repair of birth canal trauma such as pelvic floor muscle, perineal, labial, and clitoral tears and post delivery labial asymmetry and hypertrophy. The cosmetic procedures include labiaplasty vaginoplasty and clitoral hood re-contouring. We also specialize in female sexual dysfunction and vaginismus.
He is fully licensed to practice Medicine in the Bahamas and has served as Chief Obstetrics Consultant for the Department of Public Health.
