We may use cognitive-behavioral techniques to examine how old thought patterns are keeping you stuck, and how they can be changed. We may use Buddhist psychotherapy techniques, learning to be aware of what is happening, and how to manage difficult emotions. Relationships can be reviewed using psychodynamic principles. In short- there is no single way to approach difficulties. You are a complex, dynamic person in a complex context.
