Dr. Balaram completed his orthopaedic surgery residency training at Loyola University Chicago. He went on to further specialize, completing the Kaplan Hand and Upper Extremity fellowship at New York University Hospital in Manhattan, New York.
Dr. Balaram was then awarded a travelling scholarship and was accepted into the Upper Limb Sports Fellowship at the Melbourne Orthopaedic Group in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. He lived and worked in Australia to further his specialty interest of sports injuries to the shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand.
Dr. Balaram has published multiple peer reviewed articles and book chapters. He has presented his own research at both national and international meetings. He is a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand and the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
Dr. Balaram is fluent in Spanish and is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons and has the certificate of added qualification for surgery of the hand.
